Dermatology
Skin problems are common, and they can affect how you feel as well as how you look. This service offers assessment of a wide range of skin concerns for adults and children, led by a GP.
At your appointment, your clinician will ask about your skin, your medical history and any treatments you have already tried, and will examine the affected area. They will explain what they think is going on, and discuss your options, which may include advice, treatment, tests or referral for further care where needed.
A single appointment may not be able to answer every question, and some skin problems need further tests or a different kind of care. Your clinician will explain what is recommended.

If a mole or patch of skin is changing in size, shape or colour, bleeds, itches or does not heal, have it checked promptly. For severe skin reactions, especially with fever, difficulty breathing or swelling of the face, seek urgent help.

What skin conditions can I be seen for?
Common concerns such as acne, eczema, psoriasis and rashes, as well as moles, lumps and bumps. If your concern needs a different kind of care, your clinician will tell you.
Can you check my moles?
Your clinician can look at a mole and advise on whether it needs further attention. A skin check cannot rule out every skin condition, and your clinician may recommend further tests or a referral.
Can lumps and bumps be removed?
Whether a lump or bump can be treated, and where, depends on what it is. Please ask our team about this before you book.
Can children be seen?
The service is for adults and children with a range of skin concerns. Please call our team on 0151 808 3018 if you would like to book for a child, so that we can make sure the appointment is right for them.
Do I need to complete a form?
Yes, you will be asked to complete a health form so that your clinician has the information they need before your appointment.
Will I need tests?
Sometimes. Your clinician will tell you if tests are recommended, why, and whether they cost extra.
Can the clinician prescribe treatment?
Where it is clinically appropriate, your clinician can discuss and prescribe treatment. Not every skin problem needs medication, and some need other kinds of care.
How long will it take for my skin to improve?
It varies a lot between skin conditions and between people. Your clinician will explain what you can expect and arrange a review where needed.
How much does it cost?
Our current listed price is from £60. Tests, treatments or procedures may be separate and will be explained first.
