ABOUT THIS SERVICE

Medical checkup with GP

A GP appointment is a chance to talk through a health concern with a doctor, have an examination where it is appropriate, and agree what to do next. This could be a new symptom, something that has been bothering you for a while, a review of an ongoing condition, or a general health check.

Your GP will listen to your concerns, ask about your medical history and any medicines you take, and explain their findings in plain language. Depending on what you need, they may offer advice, recommend tests, prescribe medicine where it is clinically appropriate, or refer you for further care.

Advance Smiles Medihub is a private practice and does not provide NHS services.

WHAT TO KNOW

What a GP appointment can help with

A GP can look at a wide range of everyday health concerns. These are examples, and your GP will tell you if something needs a different kind of care.

New or ongoing symptoms

  • Symptoms that are new, persistent or worrying you
  • Aches, pains and general feelings of being unwell
  • Concerns about your energy, sleep or mood
  • Questions about a symptom you are not sure about

Check-ups and advice

  • A general discussion about your health
  • Advice on lifestyle and prevention
  • A review of an existing health condition
  • Questions about tests or results

What your GP may do

  • Take a history and examine you where appropriate
  • Recommend tests or investigations
  • Prescribe medicine where it is clinically appropriate
  • Refer you for further care if you need it

Good to know

  • A GP appointment is not for emergencies
  • Tests, scans or referrals may have separate costs, which will be explained
  • Some concerns need more than one appointment or a different kind of service

If you have severe symptoms such as chest pain, difficulty breathing or signs of a stroke, call 999. For urgent advice that is not an emergency, call NHS 111.
