Teeth Whitening
Teeth can darken over time because of food and drink, tobacco, ageing and some medicines. Whitening treatment aims to lighten the natural colour of your teeth. Products used by dental professionals can be stronger than those sold over the counter, which is why whitening should be supervised by a dentist or other registered dental professional.
Your dental professional will first check that your teeth and gums are healthy, discuss what you hope to achieve, and explain what whitening can and cannot do. Results vary, they cannot be promised in advance, and they do not last forever.
Whitening only works on natural teeth. It does not change the colour of crowns, veneers or fillings.

- Keep teeth white without any top-up or care
Possible side effects

- Uneven results where teeth are naturally different shades
Before you start
- A check-up first, so that decay and gum disease can be treated

Teeth Whitening FAQs
Does whitening hurt?
It should not be painful, but some people notice temporary sensitivity in their teeth or irritation of the gums. Tell your dental professional if you have sensitive teeth, and let them know if you feel discomfort during treatment.
How white will my teeth get?
It varies. It depends on your natural tooth colour, the cause of the staining and how your teeth respond. Your dental professional can give you an idea after looking at your teeth, but cannot promise a particular shade.
How long do the results last?
It differs from person to person. Food, drink, smoking and your cleaning habits all affect how long a result lasts, and some people choose to top up their whitening.
Is professional whitening harmful to my teeth?
Whitening carried out under the supervision of a dental professional is intended to reduce the risk of problems. It can still cause temporary sensitivity or gum irritation, and your dental professional will explain the risks before you start.
Can whitening change the colour of my crowns, veneers or fillings?
No. Whitening only changes the colour of natural teeth. If you have visible restorations, your dental professional can talk to you about how they might match.
Is this the same as home whitening kits?
Not necessarily. Products used by dental professionals can be stronger than those sold over the counter, which is why they should be used under supervision. Always check that any whitening you have is provided by a registered dental professional.
Do I need a check-up first?
Your teeth and gums need to be healthy enough for whitening. Your dental professional will check them first, and may recommend treating any decay or gum problems before you start.
How much does it cost?
Our current listed price is from £334. Your dental professional will confirm what is included before you start.
